Women's American ORT
(Organization for Educational
Resources and Technological Training)
and Hebrew Free Loan Association.
With their offices in the Federation
Building, AJE staff members will be
able to communicate more easily with
MIC and Federation's Alliance for
Jewish Education, Isaacs said. In its
broadest sense, the Alliance sets policy
and programming, while the AJE car-
ries them out.
Isaacs, who has held AJE's top job
for two years, said he is excited about
the possibilities.
"We are already working together
with the Michigan-Israel Connection
on the pre-teen mission, March of the
Living and Yom HaAtzmaut (Israeli
Independence Day)," Isaacs said. "It's
a natural pairing."
The new AJE offices, designed
with the guidance of AJE President
Jim Jonas and REDICO (Real Estate
Development and Investment
Company), have modular spaces for
the agency's 25 staff members — an
advantage over the large open area
that accommodated many at the
building in Southfield.
Rabbi Tzvi Jacobson, development
director at Darchei Torah, said his
school would not have any trouble
filling the space vacated by AJE. The
school has 310 students this year,
with boys attending through eighth
grade and girls through 11th grade. A
12th grade will be added next year,
Rabbi Jacobson said.
Since fall, when boys moved into
the 12 Mile Road building from
another site, Darchei Torah has taken
over the AJE resource room, the AJE
program Jewish Experiences For
Families (JEFF) area, and rooms used
by Nira Lev, Hebrew programs direc-
tor. The library is used for girls class-
es, while the former offices of Hebrew
Free Loan are now the school's offices.
Federation has no plans at this
time to contribute to renovating the
12 Mile Road building for use by
Darchei Torah. However, using the
entire structure will allow the day
school to eliminate portable class-
rooms and establish more permanent
separations between the boys and girls
areas.
Starting Monday, marty of AJE's
Lifelong Learning classes will be held
at the new location, 6735 Telegraph
Road, Bloomfield Township, while
others will move to different sites. For
information, call the agency at (248)
645-7860. ❑
