Sill EE BLOOl'I' S TRADITIOAAL PASSOVER CAR.RVIOUT MENU her party, every guy in the place, including me, tried to find out what planet she fell from. The slight advantage that I had was out of the 12 people who accompanied her, I kind of knew one of them. Fortunately, Lester was involved in a wine tasting and didn't realize that the longest band break in the history of the Chop House was about to begin. It took me quite a while to work my way up from this remote family friend to the second grand prize. . . Gail's mother, now your grandmother. I figured that if I could get to her mother, and tell her that music was my hobby, but I was really a lawyer, I just might get the official Jewish introduction. "It worked. Gail stayed in Detroit and became a very successful, high fashion, photographic model, and we were married exactly six months after that night..Her mother, however, still thinks I'm a lawyer. "I left the Chop House during the late '70s and took my band to a new club on Northwestern Highway in Southfield called the Vineyards Annex. We stayed there for two years and then opened a hot new club call Yesterday's, located in the former Sheraton-Southfield Hotel. My band performed six nights a week to stand- ing-room-only crowds. We were there for five years. Yesterday's once received the distinction of being the highest- grossing dance club of its size in the country. "Then one day, I received a call from Lainie and Max Pincus, who had just purchased the London Chop House. The allure was too great to turn down. I returned to the Chop House with my band and performed there through most of the '80s. "Lainie and Max Pincus did a won- derful job of maintaining the excel- lence and mystique of the Chop House, but times and geography began to change. In 1989, they sold the Chop House to the Heritage Investment Group, which made a gal- lant attempt at rekindling a flame that no longer glowed. The Chop House, sadly became a "fated legend" and by 1992, had just played itself out. But what an incredible performance! When the London Chop House final- ly closed that year, an era closed with it. Those who were the most intimate with its history, knew there could never be an encore. "Jason and Lauren looked at each other, and almost in unison said: `Dad, this booth is uncomfortable. Do you think we can move to a table?'" ❑ COMPLETE DINNERS 1 Ili C ARTE ITEMS ( ID persons or wore) • 1/2 ROASTED CHICKEN DINNER • BONELESS STUFFED CHICKEN BREAST $13.99 $15.99 (w/Matzo Veg.
