It's a lot tougher to find the perfect
place for a wedding than to get a
warm bowl of porridge and the right
size chair. But when I saw the shul's
bima bathed in amber sunlight that
filtered through the intricate stained
glass windows, I forgot about the
imperfections and was convinced that
we had found the right place.
Once the location was set, we met
with Rabbi Abraham Sheinberg, my
former rabbi, a much loved and

respected spirtual leader in Brighton
Beach, the Brooklyn community
where I lived. Hearing Rabbi
Sheinberg daven and deliver a sermon,
and just being in his presence at the
Hebrew Alliance of Brighton syna-
gogue made me feel very connected
and spiritual.
Unfortunately, when my aunt and
uncle moved into our neighborhood,
they convinced my parents to switch
to a more upscale shul (where I never
felt comfortable and cannot even
recall the name of its rabbi).
