A

t no time is a caring community more necessary

than when one of its members is going through a

rough time.That's why the Jewish Family Service

is such an important part of the Jewish Federation's family

of agencies.

Consider the range of its services:

• counseling, emergency financial aid, family

violence prevention and other forms of assistance

to individuals and families in crisis

• transportation, home care and congregate

living for older adults

• resettlement services for New Americans

Even a partial list is impressive, but no list can say it all.

What tells the JFS story best is the child of divorce who's

growing into a responsible adult with the help of a Jewish

Family Service "Special Friend" mentor.

What matters is the woman, once isolated and increasingly

frail, who gets a full measure of TLC from a homemaker in

a shared apartment for older adults operated by JFS.

And the family, overwhelmed by illness and unable to pay

its bills, whose burdens are lightened by an understanding

counselor and emergency financial assistance from JFS.

It's not so easy, turning to others for help. But Jewish

Family Service is there for every one of us, so no Jew

should have to suffer alone.

And that's what a community is all about.
