Hillel To Honor
The Hermelins

Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit will honor David and Doreen
Hermelin at the school's annual dinner
on Tuesday, June 6, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
The Bingham Farms residents will
receive the
2000 Dream
Maker Award
and the Rabbi
Jacob Segal
Award.

The Dream Maker Award recognizes
commitment to the community, espe-
cially in Jewish education. Rabbi Jacob
Segal was a Hillel Day School founder.
The award honors devotion to Hillel
Day School.
The Hermelins are past parents and
current grandparents of Hillel students.
Their eldest grandchild, Matthew Orley,
will graduate this spring. Together with
Martin Goldman, the Hermelins estab-
lished the Goldman-Hermelin
Education Foundation at Hillel in 1989;
it has raised S3 million in endowments.
David Hermelin was U.S. ambas-
sador to Norway from December 1997
until January 2000. He received the
Royal Norwegian Order of Merit Grand
Cross in 1999. He is a past international
chair of State of Israel Bonds, past presi-
dent of the World ORT Union and
Congregation Shaarey Zedek, and past
chair of the Barbara Ann Karmanos
Cancer Institute oversight committee.
Doreen Hermelin is on the State of
Israel Bonds Women's Division national
board executive committee and a trustee
of the Michigan Parkinson's Foundation.
She is on the board of the National
Council of Jewish Women and the
Congregation Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood.
She is past chair of the Allied Jewish
Campaign, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit endowment cam-
paign, the Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan
University, the Alzheimer's Association
capital fund board, the Detroit Women's
Division/State of Israel Bonds and
Orchards Children's Services. She is past
president of the Jewish Federation
Women's Division.
