and STYLE maga-
zine. The announce-
ment was made by
Arthur M. Horwitz,
publisher and presi-
dent -of the Jewish
News and president
of STYLE.
Phipps has broad
experience in all
phases of finance,
Craig Phipps
accounting and
operations. Prior to
joining the Jewish News and STYLE,
Phipps served as controller of the
Observer & Eccentric Newspapers in
Livonia from 1983 to 1999. He
served as assistant controller of the
Observer & Eccentric from 1980 to
1982 and as the newspaper chain's
accounts receivable manager from
1975 to 1979.
Phipps earned his bachelor of sci-
ence degree in business administra-
tion from Central Michigan
University. He resides with his fami-
ly in Livonia.
.The Jewish News has been serving
metropolitan Detroit's Jewish com-
munity since 1942, offering a com-
prehensive overview of the news,
views and events of interest and
importance to the Jewish community.
The newspaper was recently pur-
chased by Detroit Jewish News LLC,
an entity headed by publisher and
president Arthur M. Horwitz and
philanthropist Michael H. Steinhardt.
The Jewish News also publishes 12
special in-paper sections during the
year as well as STYLE, Oakland
County's premier lifestyle magazine,
and JN SourceBook, an annual guide
to Jewish living in metropolitan
Detroit.

Tobye S. Stein has been promoted to
senior vice president of Service
Centers Corporation, Michigan's only

credit union-owned
shared branch and
SC24 ATM net-
works, based in
Southfield. Stein, a
10-year SCC
employee, is SCC's
chief human
resources officer.

Sandor M. Gelman
of West Bloomfield
has been appointed
by the Oakland
County Bar
Association as a
member of the
Public Advisory
Committee on
Judicial Candidates. Gelman, whose
office is located in Troy, is a past pres-
ident of the Oakland County Bar
Association.

Daniel M. Israel recently was admit-
ted as a member of the Bloomfield
Hills law firm of Dawda, Mann,
Mulcahy & Sadler PLC. Formerly an
associate with the firm, Israel concen-
trates his practice in the areas of cor-
porate law, secured and unsecured
financing and real estate law. He
earned his law degree from the
University of Michigan and his
undergraduate degree from Brown
University.

Stephen Swartz has been promoted
to president and chief operating offi-
cer of the JAR Group LLC, a
Bloomfield Hills real estate-develop-
ment firm.

Sandra D. Glazier of the law offices
of Sandra D. Glazier PC in West
Bloomfield, has been presented with
a certificate of appreciation from
the Oakland County Circuit Court
in recognition of services she pro-
vided the Friend of the Court
Citizens Advisory Committee.
Glazier concentrates her practice in
the areas of family law, probate and
estate planning.
