George Loranger, chairman and
CEO of Loranger Manufacturing,
picked up Traison's story. "He's a
matchmaker," said Loranger. "We sent
Bental a quote. They quoted it back.
Now we'll see where it goes from
there.
"That's how deals are made now It
all comes out of trust. And interna-
tional business requires a lot more
trust factors than doing business
nationally. That's because nationally,
you know who the devil is. And over
there, you don't naturally know who
he is. So consequently you spend a lot
more time figuring out if other people
are trustworthy or not. That's where it
helps to have someone like Mike who
has a good reputation, knows who we
are, and can put all the pieces togeth-
er," said Loranger.
Loranger Manufacturing produces
plastic and metal components for
clients such as General Motors, Ford
Motor Company, IBM, AT&T,
Kodak, GTE and General Electric at
plants in the United States and
Europe.
Traison said many of the leading
businessmen in former Communist
bloc nations — such as Poland and
Hungary — are of Jewish descent.
They may not make it common
knowledge, he said.
Last month, Traison, who also
practices with the Warsaw office of
Miller, Canfield, helped kick off the
new Polish chapter of the
International Association of Jewish
Lawyers and Jurists in Warsaw. The
association, which was founded in
Jerusalem in 1969, has members in
50 countries. It is a forum for dis-
cussion of legal issues that are
important from a Jewish or Israeli
perspective and issues of Jewish law,
as well as promotion of the rule of
law.

According to a published report in
the Warsaw Voice, reprivatization in
Poland is an issue of particular interest
to Jews, given the extent of their
property losses during World War II,
and then in the 1968 exodus.
While pursuing its mission, Traison
hopes the association will be a "living
monument" to the millions of Polish
Jews who died in the Holocaust,
including a huge proportion of the
prewar Polish legal profession.
Among the dignitaries attending
the breakfast was Professor Attila
Chikan, the chairman of the Council
of Economic Advisers to the Prime
Minister of Hungary. ❑
