T
he Birmingham/Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce recently hosted
"A Winter's Fantasy," to benefit Variety, the Children's Charity. The
more than 250 patrons at Knollwood Country Club in West
Bloomfield raised about $750,000 to support a host of local children's
programs. These include the Variety Myoelectric Center at the
Rehabilitation Institute and Variety Cardiology Center at
Children's Hospital in Detroit.
Interior designer Jeffrey King transformed Knollwood
into a James Bond-like movie stage. Upon entering the
club, a huge diamond-ring ice sculpture greeted the guests.
The foyer became a casino equipped with baccarat and
poker players sipping champagne. In the ballroom, goldfish
bowls with live goldfish served as centerpieces upon black
tablecloths. Dancers and a Tina Turner look-alike enter-
CARLA JEAN tained guests before the live auction, which offered such
SCHWARTZ
fantasy packages as a golf excursion to Scotland and a trip
Local Columnist to Monte Carlo.
