To Host Scholar

Temple Emanu-El will host its 2000
Samuel Hamburger scholar-in-residence,
Dr. Peter Pitzele, the weekend of March
10-12.
All programs are free of charge. A
schedule of Dr. Pitzele's talks follows:
• Friday night Shabbat message, 8 p.m.,
"What Is Bibliodrama?"
• Shabbat morning Torah study, 9:30
a.m., "Building a _Pyramid/Building a
Tabernacle"
• Shabbat afternoon presentation and
teacher training, 2 p.m., "Jethro: The
Demands of Family and Leadership"
• Sunday morning presentation, 10
a.m., "Miriam — When Does
Childhood End?"
Dr. Pitzele is a writer, teacher and
adjunct faculty member of the Jewish
Theological Seminary and Union
Theological Seminary, both in New
York, as well as an institutional therapist
and co-founder of the Institute for
Contemporary Midrash. He has devel-
oped a form of improvisational theater
for the teaching of biblical narrative
. called Bibliodrama.
There will be a special Shabbat din-
ner with Dr. Pitzele at 6 p.m. Friday,
March 10, at the temple. The cost is
$20 per person. A Shabbat luncheon at
12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, costs
$15 per person.

Shabbat-Inspired
Video Shown

Striving to highlight the Shabbat table as
a rich educational source for the Jewish
family, the Chofetz Chaim Heritage
Foundation is presenting the video pre-
sentation, Mining the Treasures of the
Shabbos Table, at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday,
March 8, in the auditorium of the Sally
Allan Alexander Beth Jacob School
Girls, 14390 W. 10 Mile Road, Oak
Park.
The video includes a discussion of
family obstacles that interfere with the
potential meaning of the Shabbat meal,
as well as advice on bypassing them.
Panel members include Rabbis Avi
Schulman, Paysach Krohn and Yaakov
Salomon with a special message by
Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetsky.
The video will be shown as part of a
nationwide program delving into this
topic. Su:ested donation is $5/couple.
