Breakfast At Tiffany's
Anti-Defamation League introduces the Women of Achievement.
CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ
Local Columnist
T
iffany, the upscale jewelry
store at the Somerset
Collection, is known for
attracting extraordinary
women, like Audrey Hepburn in her
famous movie role; so, it is no sur-
prise that Esther Shapiro, Sharon
Bernard, Helen Love, Elaine Driker
and Marianne Udow attended a
recent breakfast hosted there by the
Anti-Defamation League.
These five women will be honored
6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the ADL
Women of Achievement Awards ben-
efit dinner at St. John's Cultural
Center in Southfield. The Women of
Achievement Awards are given to
women who have made a difference
in the Detroit area by exemplifying
the philosophy of ADL — con-
fronting discrimination and espousing
democratic values and diversity.
Esther Shapiro will receive the
Lifetime Achievement Award for her
extraordinary commitment to democ-
racy and human rights. She'll speak at
the April event on "Why Not?:
Choices for the Next Century."
Another honoree, Elaine Driker,
has been active in the Jewish commu-
nity. As a leader of the Detroit Jewish
Initiative, she joins individuals and
'institutions in the Jewish community
with their Detroit counterparts to
establish meaningful programs.
"I've lived my life personally and
professionally based on ideals brought
to me by my parents, teachers and
rabbis," said Driker, who spoke for a
few minutes at the breakfast, along
with the other honorees.
Some of the ADL supporters spot-
ted that morning included Sue Luria,
Hilary Isakow, Susan Bolin, Richard
Loebl, Judi Schram, Merle Solway,
Fran Gross Linden, Richard Nodell,
Michael Horowitz, Sheri Schiff,
Cheryl Bloom, Marcy Heller Fisher
and Pat Rosen. For information on
the April event, call (248) 355-3730.
