Gen. Shlomo Gazit
To Talk Weapons

An expert in deterring chemical,
biological and nuclear weapons,
retired Major General Shlomo Gazit
of Israel will be a scholar in resi-
dence locally, March 18-27.
Gazit's visit is under the auspices
of the Labor Zionist Alliance,
Na'amat USA and the Jewish
Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit. The national
sponsor is the American Zionist
Movement, in cooperation with the
World Zionist Organization's depart-
ment of information. The local orga-
nizations, including Habonim, will
co-sponsor one of his talks at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 19, at the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building in
Bloomfield Township.
A wide-ranging speaker and writer
on the Middle East, Gazit is former
editor of the Middle East Military
Balance and senior research associate
at Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies.
He has been a distinguished fellow
at Harvard Center for International
Affairs in Cambridge, Mass.
Gazit was president of Ben-
Gurion University, first administra-
tor of the administered territories
(West Bank), head of Israel Defense
Forces Military Intelligence and the
prime minister's adviser and special
delegate to PLO Chairman Yasser
Arafat.
