A consummate collector, Harriet
Drissman keeps her project materials
— really, it can be anything, she says
— throughout the house. She admits,
"I save everything, which is sometimes
a curse." Just the other day, she made
use of huge rolls of paper she'd pur-
1 chased more than iwo years ago.
Materials usually are kept in shoe-
: boxes, waiting for an idea. When
Drissman gets one, she promptly
writes down her plan and places it
with the huge rolls of papers, or thou-
: sand buttons, or empty thread spools
— whatever it is she has saved for
this very moment. And, of course, she
needs bll the materials right there
because an idea is likely to come at
any moment, any time, anywhere.
Maybe Drissman will see a kite
twisted about a tall tree that gives her
an idea for Tu b'Shevat, or she'll
notice a stack of bricks that reminds
her of a box of matza, or she'll hap-
1 pen to catch a Star Trek rerun with
Spock and Kirk running into a huge,
universe-wide flood and that will
make her think of the parting of the
1 Red Sea.
"I'll see something," she says, "and
I'll say, 'That gives me an idea!' and
my children will tell me, 'Oh, no,
. Mom — not again!"
