Russian Re-emergence
ith- the breakup of the former Soviet

w

Union in 1991, the fate of Russian Jews
turned sharply into world focus. Today's cover
story, on pages 6-14, examines how Russian
Jews have fared over the past decade not only
in that fast-changing part of the world but also
Israel and Detroit. Staff Writer Harry
Kirsbaum wrote the local story as a companion
to a story from Tula, Russia, by Lev Krichevsky
and one from Jerusalem by Judith Sudilovsky.
Contributing Editor Jonathan Friendly and
Story Development Editor Keri Guten Cohen
coordinated the package.
Also in today's issue, we've re-run the cross-
word puzzle that ran last week with the wrong
answers. The right answers (on page 113)
accompany the republished puzzle (on page
89). We apologize for recent mistakes with the
puzzle and will strive to do a better job assur-
ing that it's correct every week for those of you
who faithfully watch for it.
