Alissia Kass (Berkley High School,
1998; Hillel Day. School, 1994), a
sophomore in the School of
Engineering at the University of
Michigan, won a Hopwood Award
in the category of underclassman
fiction for her story "Keeping
Anna" — part of a collection of
three stories. Kass is majoring in
computer engineering and English.
Patty Seyburn, former Detroiter of
southern California, has received .
the Notable Book
Award for 2000
from the Notable
Book Council of
the Reference and
User Services
Association, a divi-
sion of the
American Library
Association. Her award is for writ-
ing Diasporadic, a book of poems. .
The book also won the 1997
Marianne Moore Poetry Prize.
Seyburn, a Ph.D. candidate, works
as a freelance journalist and teacher.
