LEONA KRELITZ FRESHMAN, of

California, formerly of Pennsylvania and
Detroit, died Feb. 15. Mrs. Freshman
was a "Renaissance Woman," having
traveled extensively to 70 countries and
making lifelong friends in most of them.
She also enjoyed the theater and music -
and played the piano. Her charitable _
involvements were many. She served as
both local Detroit and Mid-Western
president of Women's American ORT,
president of Hadassah in Detroit, head-
ed up the UJA in Palm Springs as well
as the Los Angeles Sister City
Committee under Mayor Sam Yorty and
built youth facilities both in Eilat, Israel,
and in Ethiopia.
Mrs. Freshman is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel and
Ardyth Freshman, Gordon and Timi
Freshman, Richard and Kim Freshman;
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchil-
dren; sisters, Janice Mirbach and Judy
Krelitz. She was the beloved wife of the
late Earl Freshman.
Interment in California.
Contributions may be made to the
Guardians of the Jewish Home for the
Aging, 1640 South Sepulveda Blvd.,
Suite 210, Los Angeles, CA 90025. This
annoucement was placed at the request
of the family by Ira Kaufman Chapel.

monis HODESS, 86, of Oak Park,

died Feb. 19.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Frances Hodess; daughter, Sandra
Hodess of Oak Park; son, Bruce Hodess
of Maryland; brother and sister-in-law,
Joseph and Joyce Hodess of Farmington
Hills; granddaughter, Arwen (Ruben)
Cochran; great-granddaughter, Sarah.
Services and interment at the Clover
Hill Park Cemetery in Birmingham.

JEAN HOLTZMAN, 86, of Southfield,

died Feb. 18.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Judith and Jerry Tugman
of Troy; son, Lawrence Holtzman of
Milford; brothers, Leo Pawlak,
Anthony Pawlak. She was the beloved

wife of the late David Holtzman.
Services and interment at Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Contributions

EMANUEL KAPLAN, 88, of West

Bloomfield, died Feb. 19.
He is survived by his daughter and
son-in-law, Ruth and Oded Boyman of
West Bloomfield; sister, Esther Silvinski
of Tel Aviv, Israel; grandchildren, Anna
Boyman, Ariel Boyman, Rachel
Boyman. Mr. Kaplan was the beloved
husband of the late Leah Kaplan; loving
son of the late Israel and Bilha Kaplan.

GEORGE KARABENICK, 86, of Boca
Raton, Fla., died Feb. 20. He attended
Central High School and was on its bas-
ketball team. He also began studies at
Wayne State University. Mr. Kranenick
was a residential contractor and went
into the remodeling business with his
uncle, developing land and building
houses in the greater Detroit area. He
was active in B'nai Kith and attended
Congregation Beth Shalom. After retir-
ing, he and his wife moved to Florida,
settling in Boca Raton.
Mr. Karabenick is survived by his
wife of six months, Ruth Reistman
Karabenick; -son and daughter-in-law,
Stuart Karabenick and Julie Drew
Karabenick; grandchildren, Robin Leavy
and partner Marvin Shoup, Scott and
Brenda Karabenick, Rachel Karabenick,
Leah Karabenick; great-granddaughter,
Zoe Florence Karabenick; brother,
Edward "Eddie" Karabenick; sisters,
Mary Brooks, Helen Brooks; brother-in-
law, Fred Rapoport. For 62 years, he
was the beloved husband of the late
Florence Karabenick; loving brother of
the late Ethel Margolis; dear brother-in-
law of the late Harriet Rapoport, the
late Nate Margolis, the late Abraham
Burnstein and the late Charlotte
Burnstein.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.
