IRP Hosts
Spring Series

Art and current issues will be the themes
of the spring mini-series to be presented
by the Institute for Retired Professionals
on five consecutive Fridays, beginning
March 3, at the Jewish Community
Center in Oak Park.
Morning sessions, which will focus
on art, will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run
to noon. The afternoon presentations
are scheduled from 1-2:30 p.m.
A teacher of art history, Wendy
Evans, will focus on four artists and
changes in painting in France at the turn
of the century: March 3, Manet; March
10, Monet; March 17, Van Gogh;
March 24, Matisse.
Opening the afternoon sessions on
March 3, Rabbi Sherwin Wine of the
Birmingham Temple will discuss
"Whither Jewish Liberalism." On
March 10, Rabbi E.B. Freedman, direc-
tor of Jewish Hospice Services, and
Wendy Waggenheim, legislative affairs
director of the American Civil Liberties
Union of Michigan, will discuss the pros
and cons of school vouchers.
In the remaining three afternoon ses-
sions, Robert A. Sedler, professor of law
at Wayne State University, will focus on
constitutional issues to be addressed by
the U.S. Supreme Court. Dr. Sedler,
who teaches courses in constitutional
law and conflict of laws, will speak on
the American Federal System on March
17; free speech on March 24; freedom
of religion on March 31.
On March 24, Nancy Barat, who
teaches at the Center for Creative
Studies College of Art and Design, will
discuss "The Nazi Attack on the Jewish
Degenerate Art'."
Al Ascher is chairman and Bea Moss
is co-chairman of the committee. The
Institute for Retired Professionals is a
group for retired and semi-retired indi-
viduals dedicated to continued learning.

Academy Hosts
Open House

Bais Menachem Academy will host an
open house for prospective parents at
8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at the
Beth Shalom school wing.
Registration for the fall term will be
available, with discounts for early reg-
istrants.
Bais Menachem offers an all-day k-
elementary experience in both Torah
and secular studies. For information,
