Wilson's fears that the behemoth
Voyager would be overwhelming were
unfounded, thanks to such intimate
nooks as the Champagne Bar,
Connoisseur Club Cigar Lounge,
Aquarium Bar, florist shop, twin-deck
library and Internet cafe.
Still, with 14 passenger decks and
elevators, the vessel is so huge that
cruise-goers can lose sight of their
pals for a half-day or more and spend
several days on the ship without
exploring all its areas.
The Liebermans, relaxing after
their rock-climbing adventure, said
the only thing missing from the
Voyager is the kind of personalized
service many veteran cruisers enjoy
on smaller ships, where fewer passen-
gers and more assigned seating are the
order of the day.
Voyager even has an ice rink for
recreational skating and passenger ice
shows, which is the centerpiece of
Studio B, a 900-seat arena, with tele-
scopic seating, retractable floor and
state-of-the-art broadcast facilities
used for American Bandstand dance
parties, game shows and other enter-
tainment productions.
The Vault, Voyager's late-night
spot, generated the biggest shipboard
buzz. Guests gain entry through the
club's curved stainless-steel doors by
pressing their hand against a sensor-
studded handprint. Once inside,
club-goers shimmy across a strobe-lit
catwalk and take their place, through
an archway fringed with red and
black rubber "fingers," at the art
deco-style bar or on the crowded
dance floor one deck below.
Other favorite shipboard haunts
include the Schooner Bar, where
smoky-throated crooner Steve Heist
plays blues ballads and Dixieland tunes;
the High Notes Jazz Club above the top
deck; and the largest casino afloat, a
two-story gaming parlor with 300 slot
machines, 10 blackjack tables and other
gambling options.
Many passengers can be found by
day in the ship's 15,000-square-foot
fitness center or state-of-the-art golf
simulator (Oakland Hills is among
the dozen playable courses). Others
deposit kids in the supervised
Adventure Ocean program, complete
With computers and Johnny Rockets
diner, or simply lounge in the three
pools or Solarium amid classical
Greek statuary that's representative of
the ship's $12 million art collection.
With so much going on, there's
little time — or reason — to stay
inside Voyager's spacious cabins. 0
