ifth-graders in Jewish congregational
and day schools from throughout metro
Detroit gave a helping hand last Sun-
day during the Tzedakah Experience held at
Temple Beth El.
More than 500 children and their parents
attended the hands-on event. Its purpose was
to teach students about the activities of Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit-supported
agencies and other local organizations that
serve the Jewish community.
In preparation for the event, the schools
taught a "Helping Hands" curriculum, cre-
ated especially for the day by the Agency
for Jewish Education. The students also
participated in the Penny Harvest, collect-
ing and recycling pennies and other coins
from families, friends and neighbors. The
funds were dropped off at the Tzedakah
Experience and allocated by the students
to the agencies.
. Margie Dunn chaired the Tzedakah Expe-
rience; Cookie Gonik was associate chair.
The Penny Harvest chairman was Roz
Blanck. lil
