The Best Of Everything

Stage Deli to Las
Vegas ... Stage Deli,
originated years
back by the late
Max Asnas, is now
also at the MGM
Grand ... Lindy's in
New York was a
wonderful Jewish
delicatessen, too ... but at the Flamingo
Hilton, Lindy's Deli is no more than a
coffee shop ... Its corned beef is bad ...
something the late Leo Lindemann,
New York Lindy's owner, wouldn't have
served even to any of the starving pan-
handlers who used to come around his
place ... Many of those who know
about it, go to places like the Bagel
Cafe, with its New York tumult and
great pastries, on Buffalo Avenue.
Buffets in Las Vegas are prides and
joys ... First dreamed up by Beldon
Katelman, owner of the El Rancho
Hotel, as a means of keeping cus-
tomers in the hotel after the second
show, the El Rancho began with a
Midnight Chuck Wagon Buffet ... in a
tradition dating back to the early
1940s ... The idea caught on immedi-
ately ... Most have beautiful and tasty
arrays of food ... But some, like the
buffet at MGM Grand, seem to be
more for people to eat than enjoy.
One of Las Vegas' best restaurants is
not on the Strip ... Piero's, owned by
Freddie Glusman, is a world-class Italian
restaurant for people who appreciate
good food and service in a wonderful
atmosphere ... The Osso Buco is world-
famous ... and its veal chop is unbeliev-
ably good ... This wonderful fine dining
is, in a word, remarkable.
Dining at the very elegant Paris Hotel
is choice ... Its fine dining Rotisserie des
Artistes is an extraordinary two-story art
deco dining room with an excellent
menu ... Le Provencal at Paris, has
French-Italian dishes with provincial
wine served in either bottles or decanted
from large barrels in the dining room ...
Fine French pastries and European cof-
fees are presented by singing servers.
Bellagio's Le Cirque is an extraordi-
nary dining experience with its con-
temporary French cuisine and exquis-
ite mahogany interior ... Palace Court
in Caesar's Palace still ranks among
the best, with gloved personnel serving
French and nouvelle cuisine ... the
Monte Carlo Room at Desert Inn has
a prestigious four-star Mobil Guide
rating for its French gourmet creations
... Chef Charlie Palmer brings his
acclaimed New York dining spot to
Mandalay Bay's Aureole with its classic
American dishes.
No place anywhere offers better
