SAJE — Seminars
for Adult Jewish
Enrichment —
will begin its sec-
ond term on
Tuesday, Feb. 22,
offering 25 cours-
es spanning the Jewish experience.
SAJE courses are each made up of
three 50-minute sessions over three
weeks.
During the second term, SAJE
will offer Jewish storytelling, Jewish
arts and culture, ethics, Jewish poet-
ry, Jewish music, prayer, Israel and a
course taught in Russian. There will
also be a lunch-and-learn series and
a special program for young adults
on building a Jewish home.
Courses are taught by local rab-
bis, cantors, educators, scholars and
community leaders representing all
streams of Judaism. There are held
at both JCC locations.
The seminars are co-sponsored by
the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit and the
Agency for Jewish Education, with
support from the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit and the
Jewish News. SAJE has been
endowed by a gift from Cis Maisel
Kellman.
Tuition is $15 per course and $36
for unlimited courses. For informa-

The Holocaust Memorial Center will
sponsor a learning session for its vol-
unteers with Dr. Moshe Shner, an
Israeli educator, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 2, at the HMC.
Shner is a lecturer on Jewish philos-
ophy and a developer of educational
computer programming at the
Oranim Academic Teachers College in
Israel.
He is also the head of the education
center of the Ghetto Fighters'
Museum, the first Holocaust museum
in the world. It was started by his par-
ents, Holocaust survivors who also
were among the founders of a kibbutz.
All HMC volunteers are invited.

Hadassah Slates
'Life Cycling'
The Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah will continue an education
program to teach adults about the
Jewish holidays 7-9 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 1, at Hadassah House, 5030
Orchard Lake Road, West
Bloomfield.
Offered in 10, two-hour sessions,
"Life Cycling" will explain the histo-
ry, traditions and meanings of Jewish
customs. There will be opportunities
for questions, discussions and activi-
ties as well as the practice of prayers,
songs and rituals. The event is open
to the community.
Comprehensive materials will
accompany the program. The. fee is
$25 for Hadassah members; $50 for

Men's Clubs Host
State Dept. Officer
Aaron Miller, U.S. deputy special
Middle East coordinator for Arab-
Israeli negotiations, will be the speaker
at the Inter-congregational Men's Club
Dinner . 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at
Temple Beth El. David Hermelin, for-
mer U.S. ambassador to Norway, will
introduce the speaker.
An officer of the State Department
since 1985, Miller has been an adviser
to four secretaries of state, helping for-
mulate U.S. policy on the Middle East
and the Arab-Israel peace process. He
previously served on the State
Department's policy planning staff the
Bureau of Intelligence and Research
and the Office of the Historian. He
was appointed by President Bill
Clinton in 1998 to serve on the U.S.
Holocaust Memorial Council.
Cost of the dinner is $40. For
