How different the outcome of the
Holocaust might have been if every
SS officer going up the steps to round
up Jewish citizens had been met with
armed resistance. I would bet that
fewer than 7 million would have died.
For those who haven't noticed,
there is today an amount of corrup-
tion and intrusiveness in government
that has not been paralleled in this
nation's history.
Disarming citizens would be a fool-
ish precedent that would result in law-
abiding citizens being disarmed. It
would do nothing to contain illegal
gun traffickers or criminals who
would be free to prey with even less
concern than they now have on the
non-criminal public.
A more satisfactory answer to the
problem of gun violence is to aggres-
sively prosecute criminals who are
caught in possession of firearms, send-
ing them to secure facilities out of
state, such as is now done in Rich-
mond, Va. The experience in that city
is that violent crime in which guns are
a factor has plummeted by 80 per-
cent. Isn't it interesting to note how
little interest the current federal prose-
cutors have had in pursuing penalties
for such felons? I guess it might dis-
tract them from going after people in
Waco or Ruby Ridge.

How Much More
Can We Give?

Although I am not a politician or his-
torian, I feel a sense of futility and
sadness every time I read an article
related to the loss of Israeli land (A
Hard Se11,7 Jan. 14).
There was a time when countries said
to give Hider what he wanted; then, he
would stop. And then he would stop.
And then he would stop. Haven't Israel,
America and the rest of the world
learned anything from history?
There will never be a time when
the Arab community.stops.
