TRUST YOUR AFFAIR TO THE FINEST CATERER Trve ?tilt 3 ine Photos by Bill Yo Young Israel members bring sense of community to Danto residents. R esidents of the Marvin and Betty Danto Family Health Care Center in West Bloomfield had no trouble attain- ing the 10-person minyan required by Jewish law to hold their Jan. 9 morning prayer service. Nearly 20 members of the three area Young Israel synagogues joined residents to help conduct the service, the fourth in a series. As part of Danto's community-outreach program for Jewish seniors, representatives from different synagogues lead once-a-month ser- vices for residents. Sandy Boykansky, regional community service representative for the facility located on the Applebaum Jewish Community Campus, says she was thrilled with the participation by Young Israel of Oak Park, Southfield and West Bloomfield. The 45-minute prayer service was led partly by children attend- ing from the congregations. Following came breakfast, a sing-along, a clarinet performance and, for the first time, a series of line dances. Boykansky says the program's focus is to "make residents of the nursing home feel a part of their community." She adds, "It brought tears to the eyes of some of the residents' families who were happy to see their loved ones in a Jewish environment." ❑ — Shelli Dorfman, Staff Writer CLASSIC CUISINE Approved by Council of Orthodox Rabbis WE'LL BEAT YOUR BEST PRICE! • Weddings • Bar/Bat Mitzvahs • Showers • Banquets • Anniversaries • Reunions • Birthdays • Etc.
