ALVIN H. STROM, 81, of
Farmington Hills, died Jan. 15. Mr.
Strom was a retail sporting goods exec-
utive. He was a member of the
Professional Engineers, the Disabled
American Veterans and he was a
Mason.
Mr. Strom is survived by his wife,
Dorothy Strom; sons and daughters-
in-law Dr. James and Margaret Strom
of Massachusetts, Dr. Robert and
Elizabeth Strom of Midland, Richard
and Lorilee Strom of Massachusetts;
grandchildren Charles, Michael,
Julianne, Ann, Jennifer, Daniel and
Mark.
Interment at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may be
directed to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel.

ROSE VALENSKY, 86, of West
Bloomfield, died Jan. 13.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, David and Kristan

DOROTHY B. SILVERMAN, 91, of
White Lake, died Jan.
16. Ms. Silverman
was born and educat-
ed in Detroit. She had
been associated with
Temple Beth El from
early childhood and
was a graduate of
Beth El High School.
She had a bachelor of
Dorothy
science in education
Silverman
from Wayne State
University. Ms.
Silverman taught at Beth El High
School and in the Douglas Houghton
School in the Corktown area for 35
years where she started as a fourth
grade teacher. She eventually became
the 8th grade teacher and remained at
Houghton until she retired. She then
went back to school and became a
librarian. Until three years ago, Ms.
Silverman was able to attend the yearly
Douglas Houghton Reunion, where
she was honored each year. When not
teaching, she traveled in Europe, Israel
or the United States.
Ms. Silverman is survived by one of
her fourth-grade students with whom
she maintained a caring and loving
friendship for the past 60 years, Mary
Tabone Brincat and her husband
Charles Brincat. She was the beloved
sister of the late Ida Silverman, the late
Sally Silverman; the loving daughter of
the late Max and Rose Silverman.
Interment at Beth El Memorial
Park. Contributions may be directed to
Temple Beth El. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.
