Cafe site.
Same food and lower prices.
THE RUSSIAN Night, started by
Fiddler International restaurant on
Orchard Lake Road in West
Bloomfield as a one-time shot, is
drawing such attention that it is
becoming a monthly event.
Fiddler owner Mike Kuchersky
can't help himself ... His first Russian
Night in December was a complete
sellout ... so a second one had to be
scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29 ... This is
now almost sold out, and a third one
has been slated for Friday, Feb. 25.
At present, Fiddler holds only 85
people ... But in the spring, Kuchersky
will have space for another 100 when
the next-door break-through, and ren-
ovating is completed.
It's a fun evening ... very lively ...
food galore ... continuous music and
dancing all evening ... No one left the
December shindig without good
words for the event ... Singing and
dancing by professionals and attendees
... plus live musicians ... A gala
evening amid peasant-costumed
servers and entertainers.

Restaurant News, "that it's turning col-
leagues into enemies. And the seg-
ment's long-standing gentleman's
agreement — no recruiting from each
other's staff— increasingly sounds like
some quaint courtesy from a long-ago
era. Whether that's the industry's dirty
little secret or the way things always
have been, covetous operators are spy-
ing on each other's workers, both on
the job and through attention to
media coverage of, say, a well-reviewed
chef.
"So it has come down to this: eight
years into the strongest economy any
generation of Americans ever has lived
through," says Prewitt, "the industry
finds some of its most respected and
accomplished upscale owners strug-
gling, because of short-staffing."

operate La Villa Ristorante on
Sashabaw Road in Clarkston.
