Ruth Miller Marcus leads the Eilu v' Eilu women's service.

Fourteen women took part in the
first morning service. Temple Beth El
member Joyce Meckler Miller says many
of them "already.knew one another and
encouraged each other to attend."
The second minyan service attracted
18 women, a few of which gave up a
morning at the office to be there.
In an effort to interest teens in the
program, Beth Horwitz, 16, president of
B'nai Moshe's United Synagogue Youth
group, was invited to lead the first
evening service on Jan. 9.
Kaplan sees the program as being "a
combination of learning more Torah,
Jewish study and connecting women."
Marcus describes "a special, soft, nat-

ural manner" when women hold a ser-
vice, and a comfortable, safe feeling for
those who decide to begin to wear a tal-
lit (prayer shawl).
"Women Maven (pray) differently —
they sway," she adds.
"They lilt," states Ruthellen Kass
Singer, who attended the first service
with her mother, Regina Kass.
Notes Kaplan: "There is a special res-
onance and beauty to hearing the voices
of women in prayer."

Beth Shalom member Rosemary Wolock concen-
trates on the service.
