Todd says that during discussions
of the restaurant, "Bob Goode could
not help but brag about his wife's
cookies and how everyone would
beg her to make them for parties
and showers."
The idea of a friend making the
cookies for the restaurant appealed
to Todd's desire "to give the place a
warm, friendly feeling." So,
Carolann came on board. Now the
large cookies are packaged individu-
ally and sold in the restaurant under
the name Carolann's Cookies. They
are another menu item, along with
Julie's chicken salad, Andy's coleslaw
and Todd's chicken-rice combo.
Todd and Andy spend their days
in the restaurant, which has been
open daily since August. Tammy,
who works for a title company as a
loan closer, helps out on weekends.
(Julie and Bob do not work in the
business.) Todd can be seen frequent-
ly in his yellow-feathered Intelligent
Chicken attire at publicity appear-
ances, or driving to radio interviews
in his Volkswagen Beetle with the
restaurant's name on its doors.
Andy recalls walking through an
Israeli nature preserve in Tiberias last
April, hoping that the business discus-
sions he and Todd were having would
continue once they returned home.
Nine months and a myriad of
chickens later, the six West
Bloomfield residents agree their rela-
tionship has a dimension that goes
beyond work. The three couples are
pleased with the partnership and the
friendships that have developed
between them.
Of his first trip to Israel, Andy
says, "It really was a miracle mission,
giving me not only the chance to find
my roots and see my past, but also to
solidify a plan for my future." ❑
