The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will observe Tu
b'Shevat, the Jewish New Year of
Trees, with family activities in
January.
The Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building in Oak Park will have a pro-
gram titled "Science Discovery:
Tropical Rainforest, Circle of Life," at
4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16. Part of the
Target Store series, the event will have
live animals and will focus on dealing
with the ecosystem and the environ-
ment. The Jewish National Fund will
distribute seedlings.
Families are invited. Admission is
$3 per member child; $4 for'member
adult; $4 per non-member child and
$5 per non-member adult.
The Kahn Building in West
Bloomfield will have "Trees of Life: A
Family Tu b'Shevat program at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 23.
Participants will learn how Torah,
families and justice relate to Tu
b'Shevat. There will be holiday pro-
jects and activities and families will
make crafts and receive reference
materials to take home.
Admission is free but reservations
are required by Jan. 14. For reserva-

Institute Hosts
Friend-Raiser

The Ecumenical Institute for Jewish-
Christian Studies invites the community
to learn about its work and meet mem-
bers of its staff and board 2-4 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield.
Participants will learn about
Executive Director David Blewett's
recent fact-finding mission to Israel as
well as view the exhibit "The Mountain
of the Lord" at the JCC's Janice
Charach Epstein Museum/Gallery.
Blewett will soon lead a group from
the National Christian Leadership
Conference for Israel on a mission
focusing on the peace process and the
Christian communities in Israel.
The exhibit focuses on early Jewish
worship and is comprised of several
architecturally accurate scale models.
