Seymour "Sy" Brody is the editor of
the Jewish Veteran, the official publica-

tion of the Jewish War Veterans of the
USA, and the author of the book Jewish
Heroes and Heroines of America.

Biers killed in action in the Richmond
area were denied burial by the two
nearby Southern military cemeteries,
who didn't want "Jewish boys."
This military cemetery is a self-con-
tained entity within the larger Hebrew
Cemetery. It is surrounded by an iron
railing fence that was designed by
Major William B. Meyer and is consid-
ered a work of art.
The posts of the fence are furled
Confederate flags with stacked mus-
kets, with a flat Confederate soldier's
cap on top. The railings between the
posts are crossed swords and sabers
