people in Europe and Palestine were in

peril, American Jews created a new

organization to relieve their hardship.

For most of the 20th Century, through war and

natural disaster, from Romania and Rwanda to

, ,,,

Yugoslavia and Ethiopia, the American Jewish Joint

\....'\1\ .,`\‘



Distribution Committee has provided food,

medicine and comfort to millions of people —

Jew and non-Jew alike.

But rescue also has a spiritual side. In decimated

Jewish communities of Eastern Europe, in the

former Soviet Union, in Cuba and Argentina, the

JDC has not only cared for the hungry and sick,

but inspired a religious and cultural renaissance by

establishing Jewish day schools, community centers

and old age homes.



So, what has this to do with us? As one of

Federation's major overseas beneficiary, the JDC

connects each of us to Jewish people everywhere.

Every contributor to Federation's Annual Campaign

has a hand in saving and renewing lives in 60

countries, including Israel.
