She was the wife of the late
Joseph; mother of Milton
(Catherine) of California, Ceal
(Morrie) Bogrow of East Lansing,
Dolores (Jerry) Friedman of
Tamarac, Fla.; eight grandchildren,
13 great-grandchildren.
Services were in Hollywood.

JOAN WITTENBERG, 67, former
Detroiter of Walloon Lake, died Dec. 6.
Mrs. Wittenberg was
born in Kansas City,
Mo., and grew up in
Houston. She moved
to the Detroit area in
the early 1950s and
married Donald
Wittenberg in 1974.
In 1978 she
Joan Wittenberg
opened Healthy
Jones restaurant in
Southfield and operated it for several
years. In the mid-1980s, she owned two
jewelry stores called Ylang-Ylang, locat-
ed in Somerset and Twelve Oaks malls.
In 1989 the Wittenbergs moved to
Harbor Springs and in 1997 to
Walloon Lake, where Mrs. Wittenberg,
a great lover of animals, opened the
Walloon Equestrian Center.
She is survived by her husband,
Donald; children Stephen Casai of
Hillsdale, Richard (Linda) Valentine of
Southfield; stepchildren Laura
Wittenberg of Petoskey, Robert
Wittenberg of Los Angeles, Brian (Gina)
Wittenberg of Minneapolis; grand-
daughter Sophie Hannah Wittenberg.

JOYCE H. ZISHOLZ, 59, of
Farmington Hills, died Dec. 10.
She is survived by her husband,

Joseph Heller
Novelist Joseph Heller, 76, best known
for the 1961 anti-authority World War
II novel Catch 22, died Dec. 13 in his
East Hampton, N.Y., home. He was
native of Coney Island, N.Y., and
served as a bombardier during World
War II.
