PARTNERSHIP 2000

D

id you know that Detroit has a sister

city in Israel?

Actually, it's a region, the Central Galilee, and it's

part of a multi-faceted relationship called Partnership

2000. Launched in 1994, the program focuses on

people-to-people exchanges, programs of Jewish

identity, volunteer networks, Jewish education,

cultural activities, programs for our college students,

dialogues between the youth of our communities

and teaching about pluralism.

Our visits to the Central Galilee — and their visits to

us — have led to new business initiatives, development

Michigan and Central Galilee young leadership group visiting
the Atzmon school in Nazareth Ilk.

of health awareness and hospice programs, leadership

training seminars, education projects for newcomers

from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union, and so

much more. We even sent a pro basketball player to

teach hoop skills and teamwork.

Our partnership is a two-way street. Learning and

understanding will help us meet our mutual challenges

and ensure a connection to our worldwide Jewish

community into the 2Ist Century ... together.
