times in order, to make it funny,"
says Linda, a Marnford High
School and University of
Michigan graduate and former
member of Temple Israel.
"So there had to be three inter-
ruptions at the table in Sambo's to
make the film funny"
My Breakfast With Blassth was
released in the spring of 1984; its
Los Angeles premier was Andy's
last public appearance. "Andy
showed up sporting a Mohawk
hairdo because he lost his hai r
during chemotherapy," Linda says.
"Everyone thought that it was just
another one of Andy's tricks, but
he was really very weak and dying
at the time We all knew it
"The film had good reviews,
but because it was a family project,
and Lynn had become Andy's live-
in girlfriend, we felt it was in bad
taste to promote it at that time
"I was glad to have known
Andy," Linda goes on to say "Like
Bob Zmuda says, Andy was really
a nice Jewish boy. He was very
close with his parents and family
meant a lot to him.
"At first we were worried Andy
might cancel out [of the film], but
those fears turned out to be false.
In fact, after the shooting we all
went out together. It was while
editing the film that Andy and
Lynn began to date."
For Man on the Moon, Lynn
Margulies served as a consultant,
and Martin Margulies (Johnny
Legend) plays the role of the guru
Andy visits shortly before his
death.
"On the set, Jim [Garrey] was
so much into his character that I
felt as if I was in the room with
Andy," says Legend. "He would
talk, walk and act like Andy at all
times. He was extremely believ-
able in the role.
'Although Man on the Moon
doesn't show where Lynn really
met Andy, all of us ---- Linda,
Lynn, Bob Zmuda and myself --
all agree that it's refreshing to
show and honor Andy for the
great comic that he was." I
