Even better than diamonds or a
cruise are the words, according
to Rabbi Arnie Sleutelberg of
Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy,
that many couples use: "If 1 could, I'd
do it all again."
The renewal of wedding vows for
Alice and Richard Blumberg was •
something "we always said we would
do on our 50th anniversary, God will-
ing. And God was willing."
For many, a renewal ceremony
marks a special anniversary, says
Temple Shir Shalom Rabbi Michael
L. Moskowitz. Conducting several
each year at his West Bloomfield syn-
agogue, they range from private cere-

monies on the bima to the "the kick-
off of an anniversary party with
something sacred."
He officiated for one couple who
thought they would never make it to
that point, and when they did, they
wanted everything an actual wedding
would offer. They began with a cere-
mony in the sanctuary, and then had
a party with out-of-town guests and a
band.
Revising the ceremony to exclude
legal terminology, Rabbi Moskowitz
typically adds special blessings, a
Shehechiyanu (blessing of gratitude)
and a few words about the couple.
"We've even raised a chuppa in a cou-
ple of instances," he added.
