The HMC has just announced its plan to build a 41,000 square foot addition to the existing
museum, which was fotmded in 1984. The expansion 3;7111 aid two museums to the
Holocaust Memorial Center and include significant additions to the existing museum.

of the Righteous, will provide visitors with a comprehensive view of Jewish life in Europe
before the Holocaust and an inspirational look at the people and institutions who performed

'm always surprised to hear any
native Detroiter admit to not
having ever visited the
Holocaust Memorial Center in
West Bloomfield. One can argue that
we Jews are not the people who need
to walk the halls (and memories) of
the Shoah. It's non-Jews, we figure,
who are possibly deficient in
Holocaust awareness and could bene-
fit from a visit to the museum. Still, it
strikes me as strange that we buy fam-
ily memberships to other local muse-
urns — Henry Ford, Greenfield

Village, Detroit Institute of Arts,
Cranbrook —and go with our families
over and over again to enjoy their
exhibits while so many of us haven't
seen the Holocaust Memorial Center
even once.
So, if you haven't been there, or
maybe not in a long while, let's surf
over to www.holocaustcenter.org .
The HMC Web site isn't glitzy. For
my taste, it's got too much reading
and little else. It does, however, offer a
good orientation to the museum.
Visitors can link from exhibit to
exhibit, each one illustrated with
photos from the museum and sum-
