Paid Announcement

Dear Friends,

On November 2, 1999, an election was conducted in the City of
Southfield. Many voted by absentee ballot. On November 3, 1999, it was
discovered that election officials did not count many of these ballots.

Action has been filed in the Oakland County Circuit Court to ask that
the "uncounted" absentee ballots be counted. Absentee Voter Ballots
which are postmarked on and before the close of the election polls should
be counted and included in the vote totals for a given election.

To do otherwise, is to disrespect and disenfranchise those members of our
community who trust and rely on the Absentee Voting Process. Those are
typically: senior citizens, the ill, the disabled, the military, or vacationers.

Absentee Voting is a statutory privilege of Michigan citizenship. Its man-
date is set forth in Michigan's Constitution.

Those entrusted with the public responsibility to ensure fair elections
should honor and protect these rights. If the voting public loses
confidence in the integrity of elections, the fabric of our democracy is
compromised.
