MESSAGE f

Kadima is prepared to meet new and
exciting challenges the future holds for us. First,
as we approach the year 2000, our Board has
launched a Capital Campaign with enthusiasm
and optimism. Our goal of $3.5 million provides
for three components which will establish a secure
community presence for adults who struggle with
mental illness.

The first component of our campaign is to
purchase a much needed building where we can
deliver and expand upon the multitude of
programs and services we provide. Our
Richard Herman, president
counseling program, which includes individual,
group and family therapy, serves a majority of Kadima clients. The new space
will allow for additional client services while maintaining the privacy and
confidentiality we have trusted and which has always been received by our
clients and their families. It will allow for additional support groups which help
clients, parents and loved ones address problems they deal with daily. Clients
will have activity rooms for interaction, friendship, camaraderie, holiday
celebrations and other recreational activities. You have only to see the expressions
on our clients' faces to know how important these social opportunities are to
them and their treatment plan. It is often these moments which help, heal and

rehabilitate.
A million dollar endowment fund to maintain and develop Kadima's future
operations and services is the second component. The development of a drop
in center is envisioned for the future. The center will provide a safe, secure
environment, giving clients a place of their own to visit daily and would also

facilitate interaction. We are also committed to
programs promoting Jewish enrichment, fostering
identity and cultural experiences.

The third component to our exciting
campaign is to develop two homes for adults with
schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. At the present
time we have a waiting list for our residential
options. Decent and affordable housing in
Oakland County continues to be a primary and
urgent need for those with psychiatric disabilities.
Kadima's mission is to enable every client to have
a warm and nurturing home so they may thrive
and live with dignity.

Yes, we have undertaken a huge campaign. Yet, a necessary one. The
work of the Gifts Committee has been greeted with success, but has just begun.
We need your help with this campaign to make Kadima's dream come true.
This agency was built by you, by each and every one of you who stepped
forward and embraced our efforts to help those who struggle with mental
illness. You have demonstrated you understanding of the need for and
importance of this agency. Our Capital Campaign is a must in order to continue
to meet the needs in our community. We exist to serve those families who
depend on Kadima's presence now and into the future. We hope that all of
you will join us in keeping the promise to each and every client and family
member that there will always be a Kadima.

Last summer everyone at Kadima was
saddened by the sudden passing of Doug
McLonis from a heart attack His smile and
kind disposition made him a friend to all of
us who were fortunate enough to know him.
One of Doug's favorite Kadima experiences
was our summer retreat at Silver Lodge
Resort. He mentioned," I feel so relaxed
here... and the paranoia is gone." Doug
was one of the outstanding workers in
