"I've danced other
Nutcracker roles," says
Fishman, who has been
Rosebud, Chinese and
Doll in the MBT 1998
production and is
intent on becoming a
professional dancer. "I
also have been cast as
Princess Florine in
MBT's Sleeping
Beauty."
Fishman, daughter
of Randy and Debbie
Fishman, spends 30 or
40 hours a week
studying dance. She
plans to audition with
professional compa-
nies after she gradu-
ates from high school.
Although she started
taking tap lessons at
age 7, Fishman quick-
ly changed to ballet
and has been working
with Sampson for the past two years.
"I've always been very disciplined,
and I like the strict and rigid training,"
says Fishman, 16, who danced with
the Cleveland-San Jose Ballet for the
past two summers, training on scholar-
ship. She also has studied through
scholarships at the Interloched Arts
Camp and Ballet Met in Columbus.
Because of other commitments, she
turned down offers from the
Burklyn Ballet in Vermont,
American Ballet Theatre and
the Joffiey Ballet.
While career considerations
have placed Fishman in a
Christmas show, her offstage
interests involve Jewish
studies. She had her bat
