T

his Chanuka promises to be
the most plugged-in ever,
with millions of Jews
enhancing their Chanuka
experience by connecting to Web sites
for information, entertainment — and
shopping the e-way.
A good place to start is the Jewish
Communication Network Chanuka
page, www. jcn18.com . The all-pur-
pose Jewish site's holiday offerings
include a traditional "virtual dreidel"
game, which the kids will find amus-
ing, and articles on a variety of holi-
day topics.
There's also irreverent humor,
including JCN's "Top 12 Reasons We
Like Chanuka": "No Irving Berlin
songs; no roof damage from reindeer."
And there's an "International House of
Latkes" recipe swap area with a bunch
of interesting latke recipes.
Another site, Virtual Jerusalem,
www.vjholidays:com/chanukah/index.
htm, offers a similar mix, plus helpful
links to dozens of other holiday sites
around the world.
There's lots of information for
beginners, and a "Kids' Club" offering
games, stories and solid inform _ ation
about the holiday.
But this site is marred by irritating,
pop-up advertising windows. You'll get
a sore thumb, trying to get rid of
them.
Jewish.Com , the Internet branch of
America Online's Jewish Community
Online, weighs in with a solid
Chanuka page with all the basics —
rules for playing dreidel, candle-light-
ing blessings, and an essay on translit-
eration that explains why Jews can't
decide how to spell the festival we're
about to celebrate.
There's also a handy online store
where you can take care of many of
your Chanuka needs. It's all conve-
niently arranged at vvww.Jewish.com
If you want to go beyond the
basics, check out Aish HaTorah's holi-
