Beitman is the first U.S.-trained sur-
geon to perform the LASIK (Laser In-
Situ Keratomileusis) procedure in
Michigan. He holds a medical degree
from Wayne State University and
received his ophthalmology residency
training at Detroit's Sinai Hospital,
which pioneered the use of lasers in
ophthalmology
Dr. Lawrence Corey received a
Distinguished Alumni Award from the
University of Michigan Medical School
as part of its Sesquicentennial
Academic Convocation. Corey, a grad-
uate of Oak Park High School and the
University of Michigan, resides outside
Seattle. He serves as the joint head of
the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research
Center's clinical research division pro-
gram in infectious diseases and the
virology division at the University of
Washington's Department of
Laboratory Medicine. Corey also was
recently named one of western
Washington's Best Doctors in America.
