When Julie Langensiepen remarked
about the dolls in Andy Sharkey's
Royal Oak gallery, Sharkey suggested
she make them. As an illustrator,
Langensiepen did not have a difficult
transition, and she embarked on a
dual career.
Her long and graceful dolls resem-
ble sculptures and it's not a coinci-
dence. The famous sculptor
Giacometti inspired her.
"I use six fabrics in every doll and
many other interesting textures," says

interaction of her second career: She
often goes to charity events and
donates her dolls. She recently donat-
ed a doll the University of Michigan
Comprehensive Cancer Center bene-
fit.
The dolls even out the odds at t4e
Langensiepen home. Living with a
husband and two sons, Langensiepen
felt outnumbered.

Martin Lowenberg

Metalcraft
As a metal craftsman, Martin
Lowenberg knows precious metals;
but as a Holocaust, survivor he knows
how precious life is. The Southfield
resident first learned metalcrafting in
a German boarding school at age 8.
Unfortunately, he wasn't sent to the
boarding school to enhance his educa-
tion. He went only because he was
