expelled from public school because
he was Jewish. Then at age 13, his life
was disrupted when he was sent to a
concentration camp.
Now many years later after retiring
from a sales career, he resumed his
artwork. "I make all types of Judaica,"
says Lowenberg. Lowenberg works in
brass, nickel, copper and sterling. The
mezuzot, with intricate designs, are
popular items with prices starting at
$35.
He manages to incorporate Judaica
in everyday items. He even makes
napkin rings out of Hebrew letters. "I
make many custom gifts," says
Lowenberg.
When he is not working as an
artist, Lowenberg can be found volun-
teering as a speaker on the Holocaust.

Artist Barbara
Sucherman first
began her career
as a painter.
"Day after
day, night
after night,
for years, I
worked to per-
fect my tech-
niques," said
Sucherman, of
Highland Park,
Illinois. Bit by bit, my
work in this new medium
took form. It became mine
and mine alone. The magic I felt in
my paintings began to show itself in
my jewelry.
Sucherman works with geometric
shapes of sterling silver combining
fused glass and semi-precious stones
to make a unique design. Her pen-
dants, earrings and pins are striking
and colorful. Sucherman strives for
her designs to be beautiful and
thought provoking. 1-1
