forms to us .' in party planning: seat-
ing arrangements, budgeting and
guest lists. Help yourself to the corn-
munity database for all the support
staff, such as florists, caterers, dance
studios and more.
For teachers, there are guides and
lessons to explore all aspects of b'nai
mitzvot, suitable for grades 4 through
7. For the rest of us, we can read,
learn and check our progress. Find
out the of gins and meaning of b'nai
mitzvah, then take a corresponding
cruiz online.
Say "cheese." There's a family
album page where members of our
community have shared their trea-
sured photos. Peruse the interviews,
written and oral, with some high-
profile community leaders who
recount their own b'nai mitzvah
experiences. Even television person-
alities like Lila Lazarus of WDIV-
Channel 4 celebrated bat mitzvah!
Was she an ace Hebrew student?
Read what she says.
You can find lots of ideas here for
mitzvah and tzedaka projects. Jewish
jugglers? Have they got a site for you!
You can even send an electronic musi-
cal bar mitzvah card to all the cele-
brants in your address book.
Above all, avail yourself of the site's
online library. It has tons of links that
will save you hours of aimless surfing,
for researching your Torah portion
and everything else Jewish.
Funded by both the Berman-Cohn
Pilot Fund for Continuity and the
United Jewish Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit, and designed
by the University of Michigan depart-
ment of academic outreach, the AJE
Web site is still under construction.
When completed, it will explore life-
cycle rituals for birth, marriage, aging
and death. For now, only the b'nai
mitzvah piece is an active link, and I
promise you, it is so large and com-
prehensive, you will need days to nav-
igate it all.
AJE Executive Director Judah
Isaacs said a Webmaster from
Columbia University is going to re-
navigate the site, making it a little eas-
ier to use. The person might want to
re-do the site map (it's amazing,
although it needs a little simpler orga-
nization) and take care of a few dead
and outdated links.
Considering the sheer size of this
site, and its newness, however, there's
little to adjust here. Bookmark it, surf
and enjoy. It will be a rewarding
cruise for the whole mispacha (family)
... with or without the herring! I /
