Focus Of Program

Family Therapist
Gives Talk

The American Committee for the
Weizmann Institute of Science,
Michigan Region, will hold a Women
and Science luncheon program, dedicat-
ed to women's health issues, 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec.
1, at Temple Israel.
Aviva Friedman
and Reva Kogan
are event co-chairs.
Dr. Candace B.
Pert will give the
keynote speech,
"Molecules of
Emotion: Why
You Feel the Way
You Feel." She is a
Candace Pert
neuroscientist and
pharmacologist
from Georgetown
University Medical Center in
Washington, D.C., and author of the
book Molecules of Emotion: the Science
Behind Mind and Body Medicine. In her
book, Dr. Pert describes how the chemi-
cals inside us form an information net-
work linking our minds and bodies.
The Weizmann Institute of Science
in Rehovot, Israel, is a center of scientif-
ic research and graduate study.
The luncheon price is $50 per person

Strengthening personal connections
is the topic of author and family
therapist Rabbi Yehuda Fine 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek. The New York-based
rabbi will discuss relationship tips
that work on the streets, in the
office and at home.
The Women's Institute event is
sponsored by the Women's
Campaign and Education
Department of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Rabbi Fine is a frequent talk show
host and member of the guidance
faculty at Yeshiva University. He is
the author of Times Square Rabbi:

Finding the Hope in Lost Kids' Lives,

which describes the way he built and
sustained relationships with home-
less and runaway kids. He also hosts
a monthly forum for the America
Online Addictions and Recovery
web site.
Lauren Daitch is chair of the
Women's Institute; Susie Sills is asso-
ciate chair. Beverly Liss is president
of the Women's Campaign and
Education Department.
