U.S. Investigates
Aid To Palestinians

Court Okays
Shrine Removal

Jerusalem (JTA) — Israel reportedly
has asked the United States to reduce
the assistance it provides to Palestinian
security forces to combat terrorism.
The Israeli daily Hdaretz'reported
that Israel is worried that sensitive
information on technologies and
methods of fighting terrorism could be
leaked from the Palestinian Authority
to terrorists. The paper quoted politi-
cal sources in Jerusalem as saying the
United States promised to examine the
aid the CIA provides the Palestinian
Authority.

Jerusalem (JTA) — Israel's Supreme
Court upheld the army's decision to
tear down a shrine at the grave of a
Jewish settler who in 1994 killed 29
Muslims praying at the Tomb of the
Patriarchs in Hebron.
The judges said keeping the shrine
to Baruch Goldstein would send a
message of praise for the crime.

Israel Empties
Bedouin Caves

Jerusalem (JTA) — Israeli troops
reportedly evicted about 100 Bedouin
from caves in the West Bank. Army
officials told the Bedouin the area is a
closed military zone.
The caves are located near Maon
Farm, a hilltop outpost from which
the army recently forcibly removed
hundreds of defiant settlers.

French Leader
Defends Iranian 13

Paris (JTA)
Iran accused France of
meddling in its internal affairs after
French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin
called for the freedom of 13 Jews
whom Tehran has charged with spying
for Israel.
"It is clear for the French authorities
that there can be no return by Iran to
the international community if that
country executes these 13 people,"
Jospin told French Jewish leaders.
"That is why I express the wish that
the changes under way in Iran lead to
the acquittal of the 13 Iranian Jews as
a first symbolic act."
