AUTHOR SIGNING Meet Eddie Fisher coming to Borders in Rochester Hills to sign his book ; The cast of "Flanagan 's Wake," an interactive theater piece which follows Irish traditions while remembering a life with music, stories and poems. drawing them into the production. "I've learned a lot about the Italian culture from the people I've spoken with," says Hermelin, who began pass- ing out almonds after being told that it is an Italian wedding tradition. "The only problem is that sometimes I'll hear good news and want to say `Mazel Tov,' but, of course, that would be out of character. With a long theater background in and out of Michigan, Hermelin is in her first true interactive experience, although she did a Chicago show last year that had her character scripted to sit in the audience. "I absolutely love the interaction," Hermelin says. Each time the play starts, it's happening for the first time because I've never seen most of the audience before." Newman, a retired vocational reha- bilitation counselor, brings some inter- active experience to his current role. He performed in murder mysteries that had the audience decide the ending. "I like improv because I'd rather not memorize all the lines," says Newman, who has worked with many regional and community theaters in addition to doing staged readings for the Jewish Ensemble Theatre. When Big Mama's Wedding opens, it will have a script written by Keegan- Michael Key, who was with Second City and was commissioned by Joe Nederlander, David's uncle. The cast will include 17 continuing characters and a band. "Interactive theater is much less expensive to produce," says David Nederlander, who hopes venues in other cities will decide to do Big Mama's Wedding. "There's a wealth of talent in Detroit, and we will measure success by box office sales and audi- ence enjoyment." f l " Tony n' Tina's Wedding is per- formed at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 4:30 and 9 p.m. Saturdays and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays at the Baci Theatre Upstairs, 40 Pike Street, Pontiac. $50-$55 includes dinner.
