Would he rather play good or evil?
"Well, they're similar, really," says
Garber. "Except the devil wasn't bald.
"You know," continues says the
Canadian-born actor with
Conservative Jewish roots, "it's not a
question of whether it's a good guy or
a bad guy. It's 'Is it intriguing? Is it
challenging? Does it have something

Garber grew up a fan of Broadway
show tunes and started performing at
the age of 9. Five years after his bar
mitzvah, Garber was collecting pay
envelopes to stuff in his pockets as a
founder of the Sugar Shoppe, a - folk
group.
How sweet it was — the singing
group appeared on The Ed Sullivan
Show as well as Johnny Carson's late
night talkfest.
But it was his later introduction to
Godspell, in Los Angeles, that was to
spell success for his future.
Intrigued by the musical, the
