JCC Offers
Youth Classes

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will offer
enrichment classes for children and
young teens at its D. Dan & Betty
Kahn Building in West Bloomfield.
New this year is the "Actor's
Studio Workshop" with Randy
Topper for students in grades six-
eight. The beginner-level workshop
will explore basic concepts of direct-
ing, set, costume and make-up
design. The workshop begins Sunday,
Nov. 7, and runs three sessions.
"Wooden Wonders" is open to
children in kindergarten through
fifth grade. The class will create fun
and functional wood projects. There
is a $10 materials fee for the six-week
class, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 9.
"Clay-Matics" begins Thursday,
No 11, for six weeks. Children in
kindergarten through fifth grade will
create projects using clay and every-
day objects to form shapes. There is a
$10 materials fee.
"Collaging and More" with Anita
Cywiak is for children in kinder-
garten through third grade. The six-
week class will begin Wednesday,
Nov. 10; it involves cutting and glu-
ing materials and assembling diverse
shapes and textures. There is a $10
materials fee.
Anita Cywiak leads the "Kids
Book Club," for children in grades 2-
5 starting Thursday, Nov. 11, for six
weeks. The book club encourages
children to share their favorite
poems, riddles, personal artwork and
books. They also will write their own
stories. There is a charge for the class.
"Craft Mania" with Anita Cywiak
gives children in kindergarten
through grade 5 an opportunity to
make art projects. The six-week class
starts Thursday, Nov. 11. There is a
$10 materials fee.
"Theater with Nancy Gurwin"
opens up the inner workings of the-
ater to children in grades 1-8. The
class focuses on the expressive use of
voice and body, creative movement
and musical performance. "Beginning
Theater" for children in first grade
begins Monday, Nov. 8, and runs six
weeks. "Beginning Theater" for chil-
dren in grades 1-5 begins Monday,
Nov. 8 for six weeks. The eight-week
"Advanced Theater" for kids in grades
7 and 8 begins Wednesday, Nov. 10.
