Mark A. Davidoff, chief operating
officer of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, has been
appointed by the Oakland County
Board of Commissioners to the 12-
member board of the county's
Community Health Authority for a
term ending in March 2001.
The mission of the authority,
which oversees the county's $170
million mental health system, is to
provide Oakland County citizens
with "a system of quality behavioral
health care which promotes dignity,
independence and community par-
ticipation."
Davidoff, who has been with the
Federation since 1992, formerly
worked in the health care industry.

SHUL Launches
Fall Programs

The SHUL, a new spiritual center, is
offering educati .onal opportunities
for fall/winter '99.
On Friday, Nov. 12, there will be
a 4:45 p.m. candle-lighting ceremo-
ny followed by Kabbalat Shabbat
and Shabbat dinner. "Comedy and
Coming Home" will be the evening's
theme in a presentation by comedian
Richard Morris, one of the original
writers on Late Night With David

On Saturday, Nov. 13, Rabbi
Kasriel Shemtov will lead a discus-
sion, with chasidic stories, at a seuda
shlishit, followed by Havdala ser-
vices. A light dinner at 5 will start
the evening and discussion; services
follow at 6:30. There is no charge. A
separate children's program led by
counselors is offered at all sessions.
The SHUL is offering another
series of classes on Kabbala starting
Wednesday, Nov. 3. Called "A Tale
of Two Lost Souls," Rabbi Shemtov
will discuss common conflicts facing
people today.
