The annual Simply Tzedaka: Learning to Give program was created two years ago. On one night of the holiday, instead of a Chanuka present, people are encouraged to make a min- imum $18 gift to Federation's Annual Campaign in each child's name. Campaign gifts benefit many pro- grams and services relating to chil- dren, in addition to helping older adults, people with disabilities, new Americans, refugees and others. The benefits to young people include: • After-school study centers in Israel that will help young immigrants catch up with other students. • Scholarships to Jewish summer camps for youngsters in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. • Help for children with special needs and Jewish school scholarships for families with limited resources through local agencies of the Federation. Children of all ages who are hon- ored by contributions will receive a certificate, a tzedaka discussion book- let and Chanuka gelt. Presentations about the program will be made to day and afternoon schools and many of Federation's agencies. Joanne Aronovitz is chairing the project. To be in time for Chanuka, the deadline for sending names and checks to Simply Tzedaka is Dec. 1. Checks should be made payable to Federation's Annual Campaign and mailed with every child's name and address and the donor's name and address to: Josh Cohen, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, P.O. Box 2030, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48303-2030. For information, call Cohen, (248) 203-1471.
