who has been a Meriwether hostess
since 1985 ... or general manager Amy
Feutz, at five different C. A. Muer
Corporation operations since 1985.
It is a seven-day-a-week operation
... Lunch Monday through Friday, 11-
4; Saturday, noon-4; Sunday, noon-3
... Dinner is served Monday-Saturday,
4-10; Sunday, 3-9.
The castle-look is still there ...
Taking away this charm would be like
removing petals from a flower.
A major reason for Meriwether's
continued success is its delightful inte-
rior and exterior ... which dates back
to when it was first built in the late
1970s or early '80s ... Having a major
cleanup and rearrangement seems to
have given this restaurant another
added dimension, too.
Although it may look like one, this
is not an English restaurant ... Never
has been ... You won't find Shepherd's
Pie or mutton or cock-a-leekie on the
menu ... Chuck Muer quality offerings
as in its other restaurants, are stand-
outs that do not fail to live up to
expectations.
Like salmon Rockefeller ... filled
with a lump crab and spinach mix-
ture, topped with cheese ... or porto-
bello mushroom stuffed with spinach,
onion, red peppers and topped with
parmesan and provolone cheeses ...
For sure, Chuck Muer's wonderful
Seafood Chowder is at Meriwether's
As is the standout Martha's Vineyard
salad, potato-encrusted whitefish, and
oven-roasted crab encrusted Alaska
halibut.
Big seller is the plain angel-hair
pasta with roasted tomato and pesto
sauce ... Or have it with chicken,
shrimp or salmon.
The closest thing to English fare on
the menu is in name only ...
Meriwether's London Broil.
RECENT POLL of local vegetari-
an groups and non-affiliated people
was conducted by the Great Lakes
Region of IPBN, local contact for the
Institute of Plant Based Nutrition,
headquartered in Pennsylvania ... First
place went to Om Cafe, Ferndale; sec-
ond, Inn Season, Royal Oak; third,
Mei Ling, West Bloomfield.
Honorable mention honors (in ran-
dom order) were awarded to Seva,
Ann Arbor; Steady Eddy's, Flint; Blue
Nile, Detroit; Priya, Troy; Badda
West, Flint; Shahrayar, Ann Arbor;
Royal Thai Cafe, Royal Oak; Udipi,
Farmington Hills; Good Food
Company East, Troy; Healthy Harvest
Cafe, Royal Oak; and Siam Spicy,
Royal Oak.
